Surgery in laser dentistry Iscrizioni sempre aperte The Second-Level University Master of Surgery in Laser Dentistry is an advanced postgraduate educational programme designed to provide highly specialized theoretical knowledge and clinical competencies in the use of laser technologies for contemporary dental and oral surgery practice. The rapid evolution of laser-assisted techniques has significantly transformed modern dentistry by enabling minimally invasive procedures, improving surgical precision, enhancing patient comfort, and promoting faster tissue healing. Consequently, laser technology has become an essential component of evidence-based clinical practice across multiple dental specialties. This Master has been developed to provide participants with comprehensive education covering the physical principles of laser technology, laser-tissue interactions, safety regulations, and the clinical application of the most widely used laser systems in dentistry, including diode, Nd:YAG, Erbium and CO? lasers. The educational programme combines scientific foundations with extensive clinical training through an integrated teaching model consisting of online lectures, interactive seminars, hands-on laboratory sessions, supervised clinical demonstrations, case-based learning, and the development of an original research thesis. The programme benefits from the contribution of internationally recognized academics and clinicians with extensive experience in laser dentistry, ensuring a multidisciplinary and evidence-based educational environment consistent with the highest international academic standards. Upon successful completion, graduates will possess advanced competencies enabling them to safely and effectively incorporate laser technologies into everyday clinical practice while critically evaluating emerging scientific evidence and technological innovations. Objectives The Master aims to educate highly qualified dental professionals capable of applying laser technologies safely, effectively and according to the principles of evidence-based dentistry. Specifically, the programme intends to: provide an advanced understanding of laser physics, optics and laser-tissue interactions; develop comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics, indications and limitations of the principal dental laser wavelengths; provide advanced clinical training in laser-assisted procedures involving oral surgery, periodontology, implantology, endodontics, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry and oral medicine; develop competencies in photobiomodulation, photodynamic therapy and minimally invasive laser-assisted surgical procedures; promote the application of internationally recognized laser safety protocols and current regulatory standards; strengthen participants’ ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and incorporate evidence-based clinical protocols into daily practice; develop research methodology skills through the planning, execution and presentation of an original scientific dissertation; promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in advanced dental care. Graduates will acquire the scientific knowledge, technical skills and clinical judgement necessary to integrate laser technology into comprehensive patient management, improving treatment outcomes, reducing surgical morbidity and enhancing the quality of patient care. Activities The educational methodology is centred on active learning and competency-based education, promoting the integration of theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning and practical skills. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of evidence-based protocols, patient safety, clinical decision-making and multidisciplinary treatment planning. The programme consists of five educational modules delivered over one academic year, including three online modules followed by two intensive onsite clinical training modules dedicated to practical education, clinical applications and final assessment. Course requirements Participants are required to: study the educational material provided through the e-learning platform; complete all online learning activities; successfully pass module self-assessment examinations; participate in webinars and practical sessions; complete assigned clinical case analyses; prepare and submit a final thesis; successfully pass the final examination. Admission requirements Admission is reserved for applicants holding one of the following academic qualifications (or equivalent qualifications recognized under current legislation): Master’s Degree in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics (Italian LM-46 or equivalent international degree); Degree in Medicine and Surgery with legal qualification to practise dentistry according to the regulations of the country of qualification; Other equivalent academic qualifications obtained abroad and recognized as suitable by the Academic Board in accordance with Italian legislation and University regulations. International applicants may be admitted following evaluation of the equivalence of their academic qualifications by the competent Academic Authorities. Applicants must fulfil all legal requirements necessary for professional practice in their respective countries. Admission may also be subject to curriculum evaluation and, where deemed appropriate by the Academic Board, to an interview aimed at assessing the candidate’s professional background and motivation.
